Southern Cadence Press

The Southern Cadence Press is a book company that my cousin, Bryce, has started. His website is in my links. He has written his own book about the civil war, and is almost done with his second. On his site, he has some of his poetry, essays, and his book is also for sale there. It is one of those choose your own path books. Right now, he and most of his family are in Brownsville, TX, settling my grandpa's estate. He has the beginnings of a journal under, "News & Events".
He and I have been corresponding by email in Spanish. It helps us use Spanish in real life, instead of the vocabulary that I have been learning. It is really a lot of fun, compared to the Rossetta Stone that I have been using. But no matter what, I cannot seem to speak the language. I probably sound as bad as Mexicans who try to speak English!!

Just A Mom?

This was forwarded to our email. For you moms:

JUST A MOM?
A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk 's office, Was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation. She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself. "What I mean is, "xplained the recorder, "do you have a job or are you just a ...?" "Of course I have a job," snapped the woman. "I'm a Mom." "We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation,'housewife' covers it," Said the recorder emphatically.I forgot all about her story until one day I found myselfIn the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall. The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, Efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like, "Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar." "What is your occupation?" she probed. What made me say it? I do not know. The words simply popped out. "I'm a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations." The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in m midair and Looked up as though she had not heard right. I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words. Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written, In bold, black ink on the official questionnaire. "Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest,"just what you do in your field?" Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice, I heard myself reply, "I have a continuing program of research, (what mother doesn't) In the laboratory and in the field, (normally I would have said indoors and out). I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family) And already have four credits (all daughters). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities, (any mother care to disagree?) And I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it). But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careersAnd the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money." There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she Completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door. As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 13, 7, and 3. Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model, (a 6 month old baby) in the child development program, Testing out a new vocal pattern. I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy! And I had gone on the official records as someone moreDistinguished and indispensable to mankind than "just another Mom." Motherhood! What a glorious career! Especially when there's a title on the door. Does this make grandmothers "Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations" And great grandmothers "Executive Senior Research Associates?" I think so!!! I also think it makes Aunts "Associate Research Assistants." Please send this to another Mom,Grandmother,Aunt,And other friends you know.May your troubles be less,Your blessing be more,And nothing but happiness come through your door!

Basketball

We lost that basketball game also. I can't believe it! Mom said I looked like Barney Fife all game. I was running my fingers through my loose bangs. I guess I was making some sort of weird faces, but anyone who knows me, knows that's my personality. Very, VERY Animated. I have to work on anger managment. We play another game against the Eagles next Thursday. If we don't win this game I might cry. Yeah, I probably will.... I have to work on that, too..... I'm having fun changing my blog layout every day or so. Very, very neat. Jessica, I didn't see what you were talking about before with the orange bar, but I finally got it. Thanks! sourpatch

Basketball Game

We played a basketball game last night against the Bobcats. They were a really good team, but they were fouling a little (lot). We ended up loosing by 5 points (24 to 29). I think after Bekah got hurt, it kind of discouraged us all. I hope she gets better by OKC.... What happened to her ankle anyway? I found it kind of strange that they didn't even call each other by named, rather by their numbers. We play another game tonight against the team that we played many moons ago. They were really mean. They pulled hair and pushed people over. The "younger" girls don't remember what they were like. Anyway, I'll post tomorrow with the results.

Keepin' Busy

I always keep busy. It's funny when people ask you what you've been doing, you say, "Nothing". But really you're busy 24/7. What we mean is that we aren't doing anything extrodinary, weird, or anything that I can explain right now. What I've really been doing (importand and not):
Bowling,
Science Class,
Basketball,
School,
School,
School,
Goofing Off
I've also been practicing my basketball shots and lot, and going to friends' houses. Basketball is what I do to relax. Weird, I know...
I've been told this is what my face looks like most of the time!
That's it!!

My Room

This is my room that my sister and I redid back in the summer of 2007 (many moons ago :). It took us about 2 weeks straight to finish it. We also painted the woodwork white. If I had to do it again, I would do something more simple, say stripes or something (or lime green, teehee :). That was the first room that we ever did all by ourselves. Ok, I have to admit it, I was the one who spilled the hot pink paint all over the carpet. I do take responsibility for that "little" mishap. Since it's a relative small room with 2 beds (plus furniture) in it, we had to push the beds horizontally, then push them over towards the other side of the room. That left a tiny bit of space of which to actually paint. I guess we were getting a little obnoxious (that paint scent does things to ya') at this point in time. We were still on the first (and the largest) wall (heaven forbid). Anyway, to cut things short, I accidentally kicked my foot back and knocked over a small can of HOT PINK paint. We were both kind of upset, but we comforted ourselves by knowing that it was on the tarp. So, I go get some towels and things to clean it up. And when I come back, and it was leaking through the tarp onto the carpet. Now do remember that Mom and Dad are out on an outing (Starbucks or something). We get out the carpet cleaner but can't seem to remember how to work the stupid thing. By this time, we are really upset, kind of histerical, and really teary (if that's a word). We never did get all of it off, so we still have a light pink spot on our carpet. We learned our lesson and will NEVER do that again!!

Sewing Group

I had sewing group today again. We started on another teddy bear to donate for a service project. I cut the material with my scissors, and then wipped them off with my fingers. Bad idea. I cut myself. (: That just goes to show you how crafty I am... It's just incredible how stupid that was of me. I'm still trying to get over it...

My New Swimsuit!

This is the new swimsuit top I got at Wal-Mart for only $12. The bottoms we already had. It was just an incredible find, since last year we ran around at the last minute trying to find a swimsuit for OKC. Since I'm so tall, it's hard to find a tankini to fit. sourpatch

My Teddy Bear

This is my teddy bear that I sewed. Yes, I already know it's really ugly...

Basketball Bloopers??

These are pretty funny!! Some of these are stupid, and some look like they really hurt bad! On the second video, my favorite is on "21 seconds". And that last one.... - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m43sRhRZUWI - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq83qgo7Rgc&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAOMTBYE6AA sourpatch

2nd Place!!

The science fair was today. I wasn't able to set up my project, but Mom did it (I was at a service project). I got 2nd place! My hard work payed off, sort of. I spent about 4 months working on my project: Microwaves VS Nutrients. There was a mistake in the times though, and I didn't get to see everyone elses projects....Oh well. A friend of mine in the same class got 1st. I'm happy for her.

Ron Paul

Ok, so I was very dissapointed when Ron Paul wasn't getting very many votes on Super Tuesday.... And, Hillary and Obama are talking about being Vice President and President together. That's just creepy!! Aaagghhh!! But all of y'all, you have got to hear the Ron Paul song. I have refused to sing it to many of you. So I will post a video of a girl singing it. She's not the best singer, she's got some sort of appliance in her mouth. Just try and ignore it....

Science/SGA

So I had science class today. We had a lady come in and cretique (sp?) them. I still have to change some things (why I am on the computer has not been made known to me yet). So the science fair's tomorrow. I'm excited slash nervous slash mad that I'm not even going to be there!! I have to help with the BWC Valentines Party as part of SGA. We are going to my favorite pizza place in the world after. But, I have to help run the games for kids K-5 with runny, snotty noses. I just hope there isn't going to be a riot. Hopefully one of our SGA group members won't attack a little kid. I should have volunteered to help with crafts... How could I be so stupid..............Hmm.................Can I help you?

The Politics of Heaven and Hell

While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance."Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you.""No problem, just let me in," says the man."Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.""Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the senator."I'm sorry, but we have our rules."And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him. Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviarand champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such agood time that before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him."Now it's time to visit heaven."So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns."Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of abarren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash andputting it in black bags as more trash falls from above. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder."I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"The devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning...... Today you voted."

Sewing Workshop

So we had the sewing workshop the other day. It went well, I guess. We were there for 5 hours total. My teddy bear's nose looks a little derranged. It was a great experience to sew this thing. I have never sewn anything more complicated in my life! I had to follow the pattern *_*. We also had pizza from CiCi's!! Yay! I can't even describe how much I love pizza! Anyway, I joked, and talked, and basically just hung out with friends. I did get a little sewing done though! I promise! My teddy bear doesn't look anything like the one in the picture. Mine looks like a bear out of Little House on the Prairie. Maybe a little more ugly. Ok, gotta high tail it out a here... :) sourpatch ^_^

Only In America...

Only in America... ..do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front. ..do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke. ..do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters. ..do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage. ..do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight. ..do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Funny Useless Information

Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin? Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed? Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'? Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word? Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'? Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons? Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker? Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour? Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food? Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes? Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections? You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!? Why don't sheep shrink when it rains? Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress? If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

Just a few notes to think about.

Basketball Game

Had another basketball game tonight. We played against a girl that was about 6 ft. She was not somebody to play around with. Big, mean, rough, describes them the best. We won by 11 points, but were close until the 2nd half. I'm earning more playing time, which of course, is delightful. I have another basketball game early tomorrow morning. We are playing a team that is undefeated (I think). If they aren't, I wouldn't want to know the type of team to beat them.....
