Shoes?

I have a Student Government Association senior party tomorrow night. The SGA president is going to speak about all of the projects we've done this year, but I still have to be on stage with everybody. I am supposed to wear business casual clothing. Houston, we have a problem. I don't have any business casual shoes to wear with my lovely white skirt. Sooooo, Mom is taking me and Rachel out for some last minute shopping. Hopefully, I will find some shoes; I'll probably pray all the way there. After all, I do wear size 10's. It's a pity I haven't stopped growing yet, too.... (: I'll probably be an Amazon when I'm full grown.... (:
Speaking of shoes, has anyone ever tried those Earth Shoes? Those things are the best! I wouldn't wear them as business casual, but they're great with capris and shorts. They also have wonderful arch supports. They're better than regular, hard flip-flops. Anyway... necesito voy! Adios amigas! sourpatch

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

We went to church this morning. The pastor actually preached today. He's been sick with a pretty serious illness for the past month or so. Afterwards, I played Super Mario 64 on my DS for a little while during the commericals when Memphis creamed Texas. (By the way, Super Mario 64 is the best game ever!) It really was obvious from the very start that Memphis was better. This is a picture of Joey Dorsey of the Memphis Tigers doing what he does best: slam dunk. He was a star this afternoon along with Derrick Rose. I think he rather enjoys all that dunking. Tomorrow I'll have to post an awesome picture of him playing this afternoon. They don't have them on the web yet.... (:

Rachel just finished her LOVELY apron a few hours ago. I'm going to go get her to post about it. It's kind of a vintage pattern with pink heart fabric and white bias tape.

Well, the day slipped away. Before I knew it, it was 4:00. ttyl, sourpatch

(P.S. - Jess, I'm still waiting for the ear pictures ... please!)

Applebee's Pancake Breakfast

This morning we got out and went to an Applebee's pancake breakfast. Their pancakes are horrible, but it was a fundraiser for Rachel's Honor Society group. Rachel drove part of the way back. It wasn't as bad as yesterday, thankfully. By the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESSICA! What is everybody else doing with their Saturday? Has anyone been keeping track of the Tigers' games and stuff? sourpatch

Rachel's Learners Permit

Rachel went and got her learner's permit the other day. She drove from my grandma's house to ours. Very scary. We almost ran off the road once.... But, for a first time drive, she wasn't bad, I guess. Still can't wait 'til I get mine.... sourpatch

Pictures from Brownsville and Mexico

I took this picture through the car window when we were crossing the border into Mexico. I just thought it was kind of interesting. How often to you come upon a sign like that?! This is the river bend in the Rio Grande. The grass right in front of you is America, and the other side of the river is Mexico. My grandfather's house is about 1/3 mile from here. He saw some illegal Mexicans swim across before, too.
He is one of the cowboys that ran the King Ranch in the southern tip of Texas.
This is in the marketplace of Matamorous, Mexico, right across the Texas border. My grandpa took us there. So sanitary, isn't it?

In the middle of the marketplace...

Before my grandpa died, we went to Brownsville, TX, and Matamorous, Mexico. These are pictures that my family took. Enjoy, sourpatch

The Way He Was Raised - By Josh Turner

This is one of my favorite songs by Josh Turner. If you really listen to the lyrics, they're really good. I love country music! Enjoy, sourpatch

4-H Demonstration Contest

Tonight I am participating in a 4-H Demonstration Contest. Right now I am all dressed-up and stuff. I am using my science fair project board for my demonstration. Because of the grade I'm in, I'll only have to answer questions that the judges ask me. This should be relatively easy, knowing that I have studied this subject for nearly 4 months. I'll post the results tomorrow. Wish me success! sourpatch

4-H Photo Contest

These are more pictures that I entered. The first one was taken in Kroger with my 4-H Group; they're artichokes. The other is in the southern tip of Texas on a King Ranch field trip. It's a caracara with a snake in its mouth. sourpatch

My Crazy Homeschooled Life

  • I hope everyone had a great Easter!! For Easter dinner we had shredded BBQ chicken on top of baked potatoes and green beans with that. I really dislike BBQ, so I didn't have any of it, but I'm sure it was good. We ate that while watching the Memphis Tigers beat Mississippi State by like 2 or 3 points. Did anyone except me watch the game?!? Mississippi state could have beat them if they hit that last 3-pointer at the end of the game. They scraped by though... I wonder how UT is doing in the tournament.
  • The other day, I forgot to mention that I got my hair cut. It was getting longer, and I really needed a summer cut. Anyway, now it's about shoulder length now. I also got layers. My hair makes a short ponytail also, but I think it's cute.
  • Tomorrow night I am going to the 4-H Demonstration Contest. For my age group, I have to explain my board that I am supposed to put together. But, I am using my science fair project board because I'm too lazy. It shouldn't be too hard, but you never know. I kind of got roped into it...unfortunately.

HAPPY EASTER!!

Happy Easter!!
Have a great Easter!

Saturday Shopping

Being homeschooled, we usually don't go shopping on Saturday for obvious reasons; it's WAY too crowded. Today, we decided to brave the crowd by "getting out early". Uh huh. That didn't work. We walked around the mall and various other stores for 7 1/2 hours. I'm so very tired right now. I did get some shirts, pillows, a skirt, also some work-out jeans. It was a very tiring day. "VERY" may be an understatement... Happy early Easter! sourpatch

Squirrel Commerical

This is a favorite commerical also. It aired this Superbowl.

I'm My Own Grandpa

This is one of my favorite videos on YouTube: I'm My Own Grandpa. You might have to watch it a few times for it to fully click in your brain. Sooooo funny!

Keeping You Updated...

Everybody is downstairs watching Good Eats on the Food Network. Have you ever watched on You Tube: "I'm My Own Grandpa"? It is SO hilarious!! Today I turned my pictures in to 4-H for the contest. They turned out better than I could have hoped.... Does anyone know how to post videos on the blog?? I have been trying to figure that out forever!!

Oklahoma Results

I won't write much, as I am kind of burned out on it a little bit, but my team placed second, we beat MHEA's team, and I won the Christian Character Award. We scored more against the team that won first than any other team ever did. It was a very fun vacation, and I didn't want it to end. We played "speed" (the card game) and "kemps" most nights. Playing with the team was very enjoyable. Happy St. Patricks Day!! I'm wearing green,...are you!? sourpatch

Oklahoma / 3-14-08

Right now, for those at home, we have won all of our games. Yesterday's game was close until the end when we slowly started breaking away in score. Today, we are playing in the championship game against a really strong team. They are all tall, fast, and can shoot. If we have good defense, as well as offense, we can win. (P.S. We didn't play MHEA; they were beat by the team we are playing today....) pb (post back), sourpatch

Oklahoma / 3-10-08

Yesterday, we won our game (42-7). They were really easy because they were all young; one of the girls was about 6 years younger than the rest of us. Apparently, the rest of my family is sick. I got better like 1 day before we had to leave. Hahaha (evil witch laugh!)!! ttyl, sourpatch

Oklahoma - 3-11-08

Today, we have a game against a not very good team. Last year, they did win the championship, but this year all of their older players have moved up to the older team. I think we're going to beat them, definitely, but you never know. I can't get too confident. Post back later with the results.... sourpatch

4-H Photo Contest

I am entering 8 photos into the 4-H Photo contest. Here are two of them. The categorys are: Human Interests for the first one, and Buildings for the second one.

SNOW!

We finally got more than a few flurries this afternoon. It was sooo pretty, and Zachary and I went outside and played in the snow for a couple minutes. Finally, snow that sticks! It's not supposed to stop snowing until about mindnight or so. Very happy about it. Did Charlotte get out in it??(!)
We (the basketball team) are going to Oklahoma City for the Homeschool Christian Basketball Championships on Monday. Me and Mom are trying to get everything together to go. We are riding with another team member. They just got a new van with a TV and DVD player in it. Last year, that's what I did ALL 16 hrs. of the time. I think I'm going to bring: The Incredibles, National Treasure, Spirit, and probably rent a few at the library. I probably will post before I go though.

Sick?

I have really bad drainage today and my head feels funny. I think it has to do with this weather changing like it is. The pollen and stuff are starting to affect me. I don't know if I will be making it to basketball practice tonight. I don't know if I can run or not...I'm pretty stuffed up. Although, I did have to do school today, just another advantage of being homeschooled!! ttyl, sourpatch

A Lazy Sunday Afternoon

We went to church this morning and listened to a visiting preacher. Our pastor is currently sick with some sort of illness. I basically was lazy all afternoon. I sat around and played The Sims 2 on the computer for a while. Our cousin, Brandon is coming into town from Arkansas this afternoon. He was going to come in earlier, but was delayed. We are fixing spaghetti, garlic bread, and salad. And for dessert: brownie dessert (with brownie pieces, whipped cream, chocolate bar shavings, and chocolate jello). A version of this dessert is called Death By Chocolate. Of course, I don't like this, not liking chocolate and all, but everybody else seems to be crazy about it... tootles, sourpatch

Southern Cadence Press

The Southern Cadence Press is a book company that my cousin, Bryce, has started. His website is in my links. He has written his own book about the civil war, and is almost done with his second. On his site, he has some of his poetry, essays, and his book is also for sale there. It is one of those choose your own path books. Right now, he and most of his family are in Brownsville, TX, settling my grandpa's estate. He has the beginnings of a journal under, "News & Events".
He and I have been corresponding by email in Spanish. It helps us use Spanish in real life, instead of the vocabulary that I have been learning. It is really a lot of fun, compared to the Rossetta Stone that I have been using. But no matter what, I cannot seem to speak the language. I probably sound as bad as Mexicans who try to speak English!!
